Double Potentiometer

Hi.
I am trying to use two potentiometers to control one speed controller and motor. There is an existing B100k five pin potentiometer attached to the speed controller. I need to add a spring loaded hand grip twist throttle to the same controller? Can this be done? I have already tried and accidentally touched one of the switch wires on the B100k with a wire from the twist throttle and it seems to have blown the controller completely. Anyone any ideas?

if the full voltage ad current are going through the pot's, they will last fractions of a second
You need to use the pot's to control a PWM circuit which then controls transistors etc that will deliver the variable power to the motor

so tell us more clearly about what you are doing, existing circuitry etc

Unless you have suitable measuring equipment and a schematic for the controller you will probably need to buy another one .

I am using this speed controller which has this potentiometer on it. Sorry but I’m an electronic simpleton.

The original pot would have to be removed if another is to be used.

The wires of the old pot to go to the new pot in the same order. i.e. outer 2 wires to outer 2 positions and centre to centre.
Then if the pot works backwards, reverse the 2 outer wires.

The two cables on their own are power switching and must not be connected to and of the control wiring.

These could remain on the existing pot.

All fairly uphill if you've blown up the unit before asking though.

In principle, yes. The number of switch poles required would depend on how the original pot is wired.
