My recent fascination with electronics has invariably led me to CNC.
I am putting this together as a proof of concept. I have not decided what software I am going to use yet. Besides, what fun is the software without the electronics and a mechanism to move and make some noise?
Here I have a rough draft of the x-axis
...Constructed from aluminum angle and square tubing. 18" x 18"
...The L shaped brackets were extra parts for some metal shelves I recently bought.
...The ball screw is 1/4" x 20 x 19" threaded rod.
...The stepper motor and gear I salvaged from an old scanner.
For now it is connected to an Arduino motor controller.
Video on that here.
This project may consume me for some time and I will probably trash the whole thing and start over multiple times.
To do:
Build main chassis
Square x-axis chassis
Incorporate spacer/bearing assembly for ballscrew.
Move ballscrew and gear to incorporate belt salvaged from the same scanner .
