dismantling instructions for an HP Pavilion N5415

N

news.rcn.com

Anyone know any dismantling instructions and/or parts supply for an HP
Pavilion N5415 which has started shutting down, increasingly quickly after
start-up. And where to get a power supply, if that is what it is?

Immediate shutting down (not software shutting down) happens just after a
click from the right hand far corner of
the laptop which sounds to me like some kind of protection circuit cutting
in or power supply giving out (or of course both if the former means the
latter).

No one seemed to know on the comp.sys.hp.hardware. There don't seem to be
any internal parts on ebay (or am I looking in the wrong place?)

Try blowing the fan(s) out with some canned air before you tear it apart.

Not sure about HP, but all laptops I know of there is not a seperate
power supply inside.
If you can borrow a good identical one, try swapping the external power
supply first.
Any internal power supply components are probably part of the motherboard.
Component level repairs are possible on a laptop motherboard if you find
a competent repair person, preferably someone familiar with your model
of laptop.

Sounds like your fan has either stopped functioning or is clogged with dust
and the unit is overheating and shutting down.

Can you hear the fan start to run when you turn the unit on? Try cleaning it
with liberal blasts of canned air.

Disassembly instructions aren't provided for most HP notebooks, which is
bizarre when you consider that Compaq offers instructions for almost all of
their systems.

*** I have an HP and it shuts down in the manner you describe when
battery power is too low. What shape is the battery in? Does this happen
when the external supply is connected?

*** Overheating? If not, perhaps, it's a bad sensor.
