Dimensions of switch?

This will be my first switch replacement. I am replacing a six pin (DPDT) latching mini tactile push button on/off switch on an analyzer circuit board. I have the correct electrical info., (e.g., amps) for matching.

I am ordering several switches because I cannot determine what part of the switch (top-middle-bottom) determines whether it is a 6mm, 7mm, or 8 mm switch. I do not have it removed from the circuit board (it is still in use--barely), and cannot presently get an accurate measurement. With only a millimeter or so difference, will there be any "wiggle room" for fitting?

The measure is probably the length of the actuator. You should easily find out by studying the datasheet of the switch which is probably available from the site where you order the new switches.

The other thing to watch-out for is the pin footprint.
Make sure the leads comming out of the switch, match to lead layout on the board.

Thanks for your replies. The switches are listed by "6mm" or "7mm." Some places do give all three dimensions, e.g., "6x6x8". The last dimension being the actuator as Harald suggested, but I can make an adjustment on that, if necessary.

My concern is what will line up on the circuit board holes, and the tight space on the board because of other components. As I mentioned, the part is still installed, and working, but poorly. I didn't want to desolder it until I had the replacement. I have the pinout marked and will double check as shrthnd suggested.

I know the most accurate way would be to just remove the part, measure it, and then order the new part. Some of the spec sheets that I look at give the "base" of the switch as the general dimension, i.e., "6mm", while on some others it is not clear. The top-middle-bottom sections of the base are offset by a mm or so. I am beginning to think this might not be critical if it is relatively close.

The switches are inexpensive, so I am just going to order a few of each to have when I desolder and reinstall. There are no electronics stores near me that carry this switch. The company that makes the analyzer is not helpful in getting replacement parts or providing information.
