digital measuring wheel with two independent readouts

I need a measuring wheel that can measure total distance and segments of ground at the same time.I am currently using an altered wheel with two analog readouts ,one being disengaged by a simple clutch mechanism when required. It does the job but is a bit clunky. Now I figure I could adapt a digital wheel with an additional readout and a switch to allow me to stop and start one read out ? Now the draw back,I am a complete novice at this so can anyone see a problem that I'm not seeing?

I think that's probably workable. You may need to match the polarity of the two counter inputs. Also, how short are the segments you want to measure and how many pulses per revolution do you get from the wheel? If the answers are "short" and "not many", disconnecting a counter may cause loss of accuracy.

Do you have any manufacturer names, model numbers, or web references for wheels and counters you're considering?
