Dead peasant policies - Companies that collect insurance on deademployees?

S

Scott Stephens

Does anyone know of a list of such companies?

http://www.hereinreality.com/deadpeasant.html Lists a few. What a great
way to keep employees in line. Of course it won't make "accidents", like
the woman that "fell" out of the HP corporate airplane more likely.

Certainly not public executions of whistle-blowers.

I think these policies are only a sort of tax dodge. Companies get to
write off the premiums and insurance benefits get better tax treatment
than regular investment income.

Aside from the problem of a company in sudden need of funds offing a few
employees to ensure a more rapid return on investment, this is what
bothers me: What happens when the covered employee decides to purchase a
policy to cover themself and benefit their family? Does a preexisting
policy affect the terms of a subsequent one?

This game has been going on for at least 15 years. AT&T tried to take out
such
policies on Bell Labs employees but for some reason they (AT&T) needed us to
sign an agreement that AT&T was the beneficiary. Orders came down from on
high for everybody to sign but most folks simply didn't.

To tie to another thread, anybody know if HP has tried this under Carly?
She
was with AT&T Network Systems (what became Lucent) during the period.
Certainly the missed profit potential of the HP employee who left the
corporate
jet in mid-air should have jogged her memory.
