CTX PL7 monitor horizontal shrinkage

K

Kirk S.

Hello and thanks for the help with problems! I wish I could contribute
something other than questions...

I have a CTX PL7 monitor that the picture is shrinking horizontally. I
tried adjusting the horizontal size via the menu, video card refresh rate,
changing video cards, resolution and even another monitor and the problem is
related to this monitor. I'm somewhat familiar with fixing fixed frequency
monitors (ie. arcade monitors) where an electrolytic cap going bad will
cause this type of problem. Is the same thing applicable to multi frequency
monitors? After sitting for a few weeks unused, the problem has gotten a
bit worse. I can still shrink the picture however I now have a 1/2" gap on
each side of the screen and the picture is becoming distorted.

Should I just poke around checking the electrolytic caps and replace any
that seem questionable?

Thanks!

Do an ESR test on all the capacitors in the scans and power supply circuits.
Failing caps in these areas are common to cause fault conditions.
