I have a solar setup consisting of a US64 amorphous panel plus an BP 380U
panel feeding into a Solarix Delta 20A charge controller connected to a 102
AH BAE Nova Solar Block Gel battery. I have configured the controller for a
Gel battery. What I would like to know is, will it be OK to connect 4
flooded deep cycle Elecsol batteries directly into the 12 volt system just
to keep these batteries float charged until frames are constructed for a
seperate solar array (due to work this may take two months or so to
complete). I have connected them up (a patch lead from the Gel box to the
Elecsol battery compartment) as a test and the 4 Elecsols are currently
drawing 260 mA with the combined Gel and Elecsols reading 13.5 volts (on the
charge contoller LCD, weather currently overcast with rain showers). I could
put a heavy duty current limiting resistor in line and/or a 4 amp diode if
necessary.
