Challenges trying to reach 300 baud BBS with my acoustic coupler modem

Note that this connection is shown to be tested with another modem at 300 baud over this line, so the phone line is not the issue, calibration is also shown. What else is missing here??

ISTR they were notoriously poor for interference from external noises events - even picking up knocks and vibrations despite the cushioning.

Place the whole thing on a foam pad and move anything that can remotely create noise away from the area.

You will see in the video that this was shown to work fine when connected through the teltone.
