Can this smarphone works without a (possible) protection diode?

While I was replacing the battery, I detached a component with my fingernail. Which component is it?
Someone said this is a protection diode.

Yes, it just looks like a regular diode.

If find something in the same package that can handle (say) 1A.

Fortunately the image of the intact board is good enough to see the markings which indicate the cathode.
