Can I make a battery powered 12v dc supply?

Hey everyone. So I'm trying to build a remote control light that comes on with the push of a button from a transmitter. The receiver runs on 12VDC. Here is my problem, I have no access to a power source, so I need to make a 12v power supply that runs on batteries. Can anyone help?

Chris

FYI: Most of those small transmitters/recievers will also run off 9V, so a 9V battery can be an option if a long run time is not needed...

As for making a power supply, get a battery holder like this...

Or one of many other similar battery holders that add up to a nominal 12V or even a 12V battery itself...
