Can an old LCD calculator display be fixed

M

Mark Healey

I came across an old PC keyboard with a built in calculator (Focus
3001). The calculator appears to work but a lot of the segments on the
display don't.

Is it likely that the chambers with the liquid crystal stuff leaked or
broke down over the years.

It's likely that the zebra strip connecting the display to the circuit
board has gotten dirty or displaced, take it apart and clean it with
warm soapy water, careful not to stretch it out.

It doesn't have one. It is one of those flat ribbon cables that seems to
be permanently fixed to the display and soldered to the board.
