Bush DVD

I have a Bush DVD with a so called 'Quick Start Guide' which assumes that you only have a TV and nothing else. but it does not tell you in this quick start guide how to install when you have a SKY box for example. The so called remote has 39 buttons, surely all that is needed is power on, open /close, fast forward, fast backwards, pause, volume +-, a minimum of 6 max. of 10. On my old DVD I connected it with a scart plug which includes TV and when I wanted to play a DVD it cancelled TV and played the DVD. but not now!!!!! Help.

How have you got them connected? Is the DVD player connected 'through' the Sky box, then the Sky Box to the TV?

You may have swap the arrangement around (Sky Box to DVD then DVD to TV) or the TV might have two SCART sockets and you connect them to the TV individually but you might have to use the TV setup menu to autodetect the one you want to on.

Thanks for reply.
I have had the DVD connected 'through' the Sky box, then the Sky box to the TV, nothing. Have now connected DVD direct to TV still nothing. As I said my old DVD was connected through a double Scart connecter, turned on TV pressed play on DVD and it played.

ISTR that only one port on a multi SCART device is capable of auto-play/detect. I also STR that the Sky Box is a known issue for auto-play throughput.

Either way, disconnect the Sky box and attach it to the TV such that it 'did what it used to' (i.e. autoplay) then start from there.

If this is a new TV then the problem could well be the TV not recognising the autoplay device but it MIGHT be accessible through some obscure part of the onscreen menu.

It might even be in the DVD menu - which could explain the multitude of buttons on the remote....

Having completely removed all cables and adaptors, then trying one cable at a time it has now decided to work, i don't know what I have done as it is now connected as it was in the first place, but at least I have checked all cables and adaptor separately.
Anyway thanks for the input.

Yeah, the same setup too. DVD box cannot be switched by a remote, of which the box connected to a tv. Using a circuit from the tv and not the DVD box. This box has to be set manually. on/off buttons. fast forward/stop, and so on. The device acts as an added peripheral to the tv, so the only controls via a remote (infrared) is through the tv remote controller. The added peripheral must be done directly on the buttons. There are no signals to turn it on/off from a remote because there is no power supply to it yet. ex. signal diode in radio uses these small signals to receive transmission.

a wonderful word salad that means very little for this thread

@CTP500, The forum loves participation in the various threads, but when it doesn't make much sense or is irrelevant, it doesn't help the poster
when he or she is looking for guidance
