The house I bought had a British Gas alarm fitted and was not removed
when I moved in. The phone line it used was removed, and the phone
wire cut when another was fitted.
Now, the alarm goes off every so often, and the sounder inside the
house buzzes very loudly (fortunately I know the code for it to set
it). BG will offer me no help other than say I need to pay a minimum
of £80 call out. I tried to open up the main box to check if I could
rewire in a new phone wire so that the control panel does not think it
is in trouble the whole time, but the anti-tamper thing makes it buzz
incessantly. I would just cut the wire to the buzzer in the sounder,
but am worried that, that could make the control panel bleep
incessantly.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? In an ideal world, to
attach an external bell, and stop it being worried about the phone
line, or alternatively, to re-attach it to a phone, so it does not
panic the whole time, so that it can be used.
Cheers
