Basic PCB software for hobbyist ..... Is there any?

M

Manfred

Please recommend a basic PCB and schematic
layout software for the occasional hobbyist to
fabricate mostly single layer PCBs?
Any advise and links appreciated.
TIA

The use of eagle for hobby stuff is pretty much universal.

I would say *widely used*--but yeah.

DJ Delorie is one of the authors of "PCB"
which runs natively on Linux and under Cygwin on Windoze.
It is open source software and is free (libre and gratis)
but because it is free do not think it is limited.

Last I checked, Terry Porter's site was down
but Terry has posted some links to photos
of significant work he has done with gEDA/PCB (as a professional).

Which though excellent won't pick up many occasional hobby users until
they do a free version. As I keep telling them- two sides, 250 pin limit
(they seem stuck on pins as the limit), and it will be enough for
serious evaluators to produce a trial PCB and decide to buy the full
package. Which the functionally unlimited (except it won't save)
evaluation they have now is useless for.
