A friend who lives nearby recently had a car stolen from his driveway.

Other than a system installed to disable the car ignition, the club, and
similar devices, are there any suggestions on how to tie the car into
the home security system?

I was thinking along the lines of a wireless motion detector inside the
car, but was informed they do not work well in sub freezing
temperatures. Fine for summer perhaps, but winter time would not be
suitable. How else could the home security system be used to assist
with automotive security?

What about something as simple as a motion sensor light for outside? When
someone walks past the driveway, the motion sensor picks it up and the
outside light turns on.

You could link, if you are clever, an outside PIR into the system.
Alternatively you could fit one with a security light as well
