Artist wanting some electronic tips

Hi everyone,

I am an artist just about to start university, my main works will be mixing art, and science, such things as visualising sound waves etc. I am wanting to build a multi sensory sculpture invloving a series of switches which project differing sound frequencies through a 12" subwoofer, while also showing the image on an oscillascope.

I have done some basic electronics before, but havent got a clue on where to start with this project. I have re-wired a motorcycle, and have done numerous car stereos, just to give you an idea of my level of electronics skill. I have made basic PCB circuits before such as crystal radios, etc.

Any help would be much appreciated as I want to do the work all myself.

Thanks,

Dave

Congratulations on starting university. I hope you get a lot out of it. Good luck.

Do you know what sounds frequencies you want? Do you already have the samples? Are they going to be recorded and played back, or do you want them to be generated on-the-spot?

im not sure on frequencies yet, as I have yet to record them. I am also unsure of whether to buy a cheap oscilloscope or to run it through an old laptop, and use an oscilloscope program on the laptop.

I was wanting to have different buttons for different frequencies, but im unsure, i may just have it running on a loop, but I just thought viewer input may have been better.
