APC 1400 Smart UPS Overload

I have an old APC 1400 Smart UPS. My batteries died and I took it to a battery store for replacement. Rather than me directly installing the New batteries, I let the guy at the store install them. I am now having an issue with the self check at start up showing an overload. Nothing is plugged in. For to be sure, are the batteries in series or parallel in the unit?

Not sure on that backup but normally they just use a mini 12V battery, like the one in your car but small.

Yes, there are 2 batteries, just trying to figure out if they are series or Parallel.

All the backups I've taken apart (2) only had one. I would guess parallel then it could run longer. but I could be wrong.
