Ademco Vista 4110 Alarm Panel

Hi there,
I have a problem with a 10 year old Ademco Vista 4110 Alarm Control as
follows:
Keypad keeps intermittently showing no AC. I've checked for faults on
all related Circuits (found none), fitted a new system battery but the
fault still exists. The System can not be set when the No AC fault is
showing but works as it should if you can key in the code quickly
enough between fault on and off indication. Honeywell Technical just
don't want to know. My question was - Is there a hidden field in the
software that would allow alarm to set with no AC power? At this
moment in time I've left the customer with the quick set option
programmed on & this seems to do the trick. Any suggestions or advice
would be most welcome as this customer lives on her own and is a
Senior Citizen! Hence can't afford a new Panel & Keypad!

Check the left 2 terminals with a meter and see if 16 vac power is
there if not the ac power transformer is either bad not plugged in or
power to outlet is off.
if 16 ac is present completely power panel down wit 1 minute repower
then plug in battery and it may go away . if this is not the case it
is a bad board it will need replaced.

in addition to what nick said; physically check the power transformer for
tight wire connections and that it is not loose in the outlet - one time I
had found clothes dryer lint inside the electrical outlet (it was behind the
clothes dryer)...vacuumed it out and all was fine.

Yes and an OLD outlet with loose prongs can do the same thing. The
brass prongs inside of the outlet oxidize and you get a weak or
intermittant AC connection to the transformer.

Looks like maybe a faulty board as I've carried out all the above.
Trouble is apart from the intermittent AC indication on the Keypad
(which prevents setting when indicating "No AC") everything is perfect
including charging current. However one can now be set using "Quick
Set" function & it remains OK during the set period. I thought maybe
Ademco might have had a "field" to allow setting with no AC like with
no Telephone line.

the walls/ceiling. If that doesn't help try a different keypad, if you have
more than one keypad try one at a time.

I've NEVER seen a Ademco panel that wouldn't set on battery alone...it
should and does on any I've ever done. Did you replace the battery?

Try the same thing I recommended with the keypad above only with the
transformer...connect it directly to the panel eliminating wall/ceiling
wires.

I will leave it till I'm in the region again ( 70 miles away) as I've
worked around it using "quick set". There seems to be no safety issues
involved as all voltages & current readings are very close to those
taken 9 years ago. Still I'm not too happy with Honeywell Ademco for
the way they fobbed me off! Many thanks again for all the suggestions

Good luck, come back here if you need more advice.

Dunno of any manufacturers that will talk directly with the enduser...so
it's not unusual if you've been fobbed (never heard of the term, but can
guess what you mean)

I really REALLY don't understand why some end users think that they
can call any
manufacturer and ask them for anything their little hearts
desire ..... and ... AND
expect to get it! And when they don't ......... they're "miffed".

Just to clear the air I'm much more than "miffed" - "Bloody Annoyed"
would describe it better. Since the big takeover by Honeywell they
just don't seem to give a damn about the older products made by
Ademco - I've been in the Alarm/Security Trade for over 20 years -
run my own Registered Intruder Alarm/Cctv Company and not an end user
as suggested, whatever prompted the idea! Also previous to that I was
in the electronic servicing industry for 30 years, so I have a
reasonable idea of what I am talking about! "Fobbed Off"? - a very
old saying in this part of the world when someone dismisses a legit
request lightly - even in this "Cool" day & age the term "Key-fob" is
often used to describe a device to switch on/off an Alarm System
etc. However I'm very "thick skinned" as you need to be in this
Industry

They got the idea from the elementary nature of your question.

4110 has not been supported by Honeywell OR Ademco for YEARS...even if I
call them here they won't offer much help unless I hit an olde timer on the
tech line.

Besides all the docs are still available from the Honeywell site or Jim's
site.

Dunno what's to be fobbed about really.
