Ademco vista 10se won't alarm when sensor issue event

I have ademco vista 10se security system for years without service plan. Recently we have several burglary incidents that make me to inspect the system. The contact and motion sensors are working( I open door, keypad chimes. walking in front of motion sensor, keypad shows zone number fault). keypad does show bat (battery is probably dead). But I remember my nephew accidently trigger alarm last year. So I think battery is only for aux power when black out. Today I arm the system either away or stay, open the door, keypad and siren stay quiet. If I walk to motion sensor, the red light show. After several to/from motion sensor, keypad finally issues alarm.
Could the battery be the reason for this behavior or anything else. I don't want to waste another 20 bucks if battery is not the cause. If the circuit board is the cause, I just want to replace the system with wifi security cameras.
thanks,

As far as I can tell from your description, your Ademco Vista-10SE's behavior is normal.

When you arm your system, STAY or AWAY, the Control Panel automatically starts an Exit Delay
timer, during which it will ignore any door programmed as an Entry/Exit door. It will also ignore your motion sensors during that Exit Delay period.
The Exit Delay time is programmable, but the minimum is about 45 seconds. (Minimum Entry Delay is 30 seconds.) You can trip a lot of sensors and be ignored in 45 seconds (or more). That prevents a lot of false alarms.

If "Bat" is displayed on the Keypad, then yes, the battery is weak and needs to be replaced. Generally, your panel battery should be replaced every 3 to 5 years, whether the "Bat" is displayed or not. Your panel's battery is more than just a backup, it's actually necessary for the proper normal operation of the system.

Oops. I had another look at the OP and realized I left out something important. Sorry!

If you arm an Ademco/( now Honeywell) Vista-10SE in AWAY mode and then don't open a door during the Exit time, the system automatically reverts to STAY mode of arming.
That's a feature that saves a lot of false alarms.

If you want to set off an alarm with your motion sensor: arm to AWAY, open and close the door you normally use to exit, wait out the delay (whatever it is--there's a countdown displayed on the keypad) and then walk in front of the sensor.

I used to key *+away+away to arm system instantly. I never understand there is a delay time. Thanks for your explanation, both motion and contact sensor trigger alarm after I wait for one minute.
