Ademco Vista-10SE lost master code

My son was able to somehow change my master code so now i cant even change
anything on my system. And to put icing on the cake he hit the # and * key
to activate the fire and police alarm so I had to disconnect the actual
alarm and the phoneline in order to stop it. How can I reset this?

If you're under contract with an alarmco then have their tech come handle it so
you don't void any warranty. If you're not under contract then power down the
panel (disconnect the battery backup, and unplug the transformer), power it
back up by plugging in the transformer, hold the * and # keys down until '20'
appears on the screen, hit *20, enter the new code (the keypad will beep,
reconnect the battery backup, then hit *99 to exit programming, and close the
can.
Best of luck.

Tom

Doesn't that change the Installer Code only? Although they can use the
Installer Code to arm and disarm the system, that code is useless if they
arm the system with a regular code or use the quick arm.

On the Vista 10 and 4110XM panels, the "master" code and the "installer"
code are one and the same...

My God! If your familys saftey is a concern...DO NOT USE THIS GROUP FOR
ADVISE OR GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION. If you deal with someone from this
newsgroup you better keep one eye
open while your sleep at night! this is the worse place to look for info
for your home security. Get "help" from here and next think your house is
cleaned out and inexplicably your alarm didnt work......or worse.....
Be very very careful using this group.
Be sure to closely investigate (primarily if you
buy online) any of the online alarm seller, especially if they claim a ASA
certification, a totally false and misleading certification (see that
later). You wouldn't want to buy from someone whose sideline is
understanding your alarm system for the purpose of exploiting it later
byknowing your codes or maintenance access numbers. Be wary of those who do
not have a brick and mortar store.

When I was shopping and using this newsgroup some online dealers advertised
a ASA certification with a picture of a ASA emblem shown on their website.
It gives a good first impression but when you look into it you find out that
it was nothing more then some....guy.... creating a website to supposedly
post complaints, with no entries of complaints or follow-through. It was
analogous to someone flashing a police badge that turns out to be fake. The
ASA moniker is a badge without any accreditation and surely this is
misleading and a scam.

Some of the free advice you get is not because of someone's unselfish need
to make the world a better place to live. Most are giving you advice on the
hope of getting a sale or...."other" information. Listen but don't act on
the advice until you can confirm or gain some trust in the source by
researching them.

Sometimes you can learn a lot about sellers by plugging in email address or
screenname into a Google search of past news postings. You will be
surprised, .....no..MAKE THAT SHOCKED....AND I MEAN SHOCKED!!!!..... at what
you find out about those offering to outfit your alarm. How can our legal
system let these type of people sell home security!!!!!

This is a very unregulated online business, and especially risky for
something as important as YOUR HOME security.

good luck....and go talk to someone reputible.

Thats the problem with giving info over the net without knowing what the guy
has, if he has an old version that does change the master code, if he has
the new SE model it will change the installer code which will work unless
someone arms it with another code

I think he has you on ignore Mike, can't imagine why since Jiminex sez it

Are we talking about the Vista 10 or Vista 10SE? Vista 10SE has seperate
Installer and Master Code. The Ademco site shows how to change the master
code using the Installer Code.

This is under the FAQ section, not the secure section where you need a
username and password.

Vista 10SE does in fact have unique installer and master codes. It's been a
while since I've worked on one. We mostly use Vista 50 and 128's.

If you can get into programming (as Tom described above) you should be able
to reset the master code by following this procedure:

From the "20" prompt, press [#] [2] [0]

The next four digits you see scroll across the screen is the "installer
code".

Press [#] [9] [9] to exit programming mode.

Follow the procedure for programming the new master with the installer code
from the link provided above.

Don't tell your son what the master code is. Give him his own code if he
wants to fool around with the system. If you're still under contract with
an alarm company and they've locked out programming, you're going to have to
get one of their techs to come in and change the code.

I thought the Vista's blocked playback of the installer code (#20)

Nope, no Ademco panel I know blocks anything but the CSID

Mike Said:
Steve Ryckman would be proud of Frankie Boy discussing master codes in
ASA.

You figure?? :))
