So I'm building my own trackir clip, which simply consisted of three 5mm infrared LEDs hooked up to a power source. The device's effectiveness is based on how bright and how wide of an angle the LEDs are. The problem is that it takes a couple hours to build so I don't want the LEDs to burn out quickly. I wan't to hook them up to a USB so that I don't have to worry about batteries dying causing the LEDs to become dimmer. The website says the forward voltage is 1.2-1.4v. Well a USB puts out 5v. I have 33ohm resistors because I was going to put them on AA batteries.
So after that explanation, how can I make the LEDs last a long time while still making them bright? I have been using a parallel circuit.
I hooked up one LED to a AA battery with and without a resistor and the one without the resistor could be picked up by the camera even when looking 45 degrees AWAY from the camera, but the one WITH the resistor (same LED though) was not able to be picked up once it hit about a 90 degree angle on the camera.
P.S. I am a super noob when it comes to electronics. I just saw a tutorial on the web about making this and decided to go for it because my dad already has a soldering iron.
Also here is the specific LED that I am using. I read that I need the data sheet but mine didn't come with one. https://www.amazon.com/Gikfun-Infra...TF8&qid=1513057096&sr=8-10&keywords=940nm+led
