STMicro and Tieto have partnered up to develop the ST Telemaco3P MTP which provides positioning hardware with ST’s automotive-grade multi-constellation GNSS Teseo IC and dead-reckoning sensors.

STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor firm, has recently partnered up with a leading software and services company, Tieto, to develop central control unit (CCU) software for electric and connected vehicles that will run on STMicro’s popular Telemaco3P platform

Advances in vehicle electrification and connectivity mean that greater and greater processing power and security are needed, and this is mounting pressure on manufacturers who are scrambling to push out solutions that meet and exceed the needs of current automotive technology.

Additionally, automakers’ demands for CCUs meeting connectivity, data privacy, security, and over-the-air update compatibility have led STMicro to develop its family of Telemaco automotive multi-processor system-on-chips (SoCs) and its complementary Telemaco3P Modular Telematics Platform (MTP), which provides an open development for prototyping advanced smart driving tools and applications.

The Telemaco3P MTP Automotive SoC

The Telemaco3P automotive SoC is the industry’s first microprocessor that embeds an isolated hardware security module for state-of-the-art cybersecurity. It provides additional safety measures for the implementation of ASIL-B systems.

Providing positioning hardware with STMicro’s automotive-grade multi-constellation GNSS Teseo IC and dead-reckoning sensors, the Telemaco3P MTP also offers direct connectivity to automotive buses such as CAN-FD, as well as to optional modules for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, and V2X.

The new system will aid customers with system integration, as well as the design and development of a wide range of secure smart driving applications that support high-throughput wireless connectivity, over-the-air upgrades, and car-to-car communication solutions.

Viet-Anh Pitaval, Head of Automotive Business Development at Tieto, said, “With ST, we’ll be able to help automotive OEMs and Tier1 vendors get the very most out of ST’s powerful and secure Telemaco3P platform. Together, we intend to accelerate the development of vehicle central control-unit software as well as enable tremendous new types of value-adding automotive services,”

As part of the partnership, Tieto and STMicro hope to demonstrate a smart V2X Pedestrian Crossing Alert application in a private ST suite during CES (Consumer Electronics Show), in Las Vegas between January 7 – 10, 2020.

Luca Rodeschini, General Manager of the Automotive and Discrete Group Strategy and Automotive Processors Division at STMicro, said, “Teaming up with software R&D experts like Tieto enables ST to offer even greater support to automotive customers as they develop and deploy new feature-rich solutions and applications for both in-vehicle processing and car connectivity to the cloud, leading to greater safety and convenience on the roads,”
